Product Overview
What is a 5X Sand Making Machine ?
The 5X sand making machine is a high-efficiency vertical shaft impact (VSI) crusher built for manufactured sand production and aggregate shaping. Upgraded from the standard VSI platform, the 5X series delivers higher throughput in a more compact footprint through an optimized deep-cavity rotor design and improved feed distribution – producing a well-graded, cubical product that meets the strict shape and gradation requirements of concrete, asphalt, and high-specification aggregate applications.
Two feed modes cover different production objectives: combined centre-and-side feeding for maximum throughput (150–640 t/h); and centre-only feeding for tighter product gradation (70–640 t/h on the largest model). Four models from 5X7615 to 5X1145 scale from mid-size quarry finishing stages up to high-capacity dedicated sand production lines.
Applicable Materials
Limestone, Granite, Basalt, River pebble, Quartzite, Dolomite, Soft-to-hard rock.

Key Features & Advantages
-
Deep-Cavity Optimized Rotor - Higher Throughput, Less Blockage
The 5X rotor uses a deeper internal cavity with wider feed ports than standard VSI designs, allowing higher material flow rates without blockage on slightly irregular feed. The result is sustained throughput at rated capacity - the efficiency gain that differentiates the 5X from the earlier VSI platform.

-
Rock-on-Rock Autogenous Crushing - Lower Wear Cost
Feed material builds a protective lining inside the rotor passages and the surrounding rock bed. Subsequent particles impact this material lining rather than metal surfaces, dramatically reducing rotor tip and anvil wear on abrasive feed and lowering operating cost per ton.

-
Dual Feed Mode - Throughput or Gradation Control
Centre-and-side feeding maximises rotor mass flow for high-volume sand production. Centre-only feeding routes all material through the rotor eye for more uniform impact velocity and tighter product gradation. Operators select mode based on the target product specification.

-
Dual-Motor Drive - Stable Rotor Speed Under Peak Load
Two motors share the rotor load across all four models. Consistent tip speed is maintained through feed surges without the speed drop that degrades product quality on single-motor machines at high utilisation. One motor tripping allows controlled deceleration rather than sudden stoppage.

-
Thin Oil Lubrication Station - Reliable Bearing Protection
Dual oil pumps provide complementary supply - single pump failure triggers automatic switchover, not shutdown. Auto-shutdown activates on loss of oil flow; air cooling handles operating temperatures; self-start heating ensures correct oil viscosity in cold-weather starts. All bearing protection is passive and automatic.

What Is the Working Principle Of the 5X Sand Making Machine
Feed material enters the rotor through the central eye (and side ports in combined mode) and is accelerated outward by centrifugal force through the deep rotor passages. At the rotor tip, material is projected at high velocity against the surrounding autogenous rock bed or anvil ring. The impact fractures particles along natural cleavage planes, producing a cubical, well-shaped product with controlled gradation.
The deep-cavity rotor maintains a stable autogenous lining at higher feed rates than shallower designs, sustaining rock-on-rock impact conditions through peak throughput without the lining breakdown that allows material to contact metal surfaces. Rotor tip speed - and therefore product fineness - is controlled by adjusting the drive motor frequency via the VFD panel. Higher speed produces more fines; lower speed shifts output coarser. Adjustment is made from the control panel without stopping the machine.

How Does the 5X Series Differ from the Standard VSI and VSI6X Series?
The standard VSI is the original platform – well-proven, cost-effective, with water-cooled lubrication. The 5X improves on it with a deeper-cavity rotor for higher throughput and better feed port geometry that reduces blockage at high feed rates. The VSI6X is the top-specification series with the largest rotors, air-cooled lubrication, and the highest capacity ceiling. For new mid-scale installations, the 5X is the recommended step up from the standard VSI; for the largest high-utilisation production lines, the VSI6X is the optimum choice.
What Causes Rotor tip Liner Wear and When Should They be Replaced?
Tip liners wear when the autogenous rock lining breaks down and feed material contacts metal – typically during startup before the lining builds, during feed interruptions, or when feed is very fine (little lining material available). On limestone, tip liners typically run 300–500 hours; on harder abrasive feed (granite, river pebble), 200–400 hours. Liners are reversible – rotate before replacing to double effective life. OEM tip liner sets are stocked for all 5X models.
Can Rotor Speed be Adjusted While the Machine is Running?
Yes – tip speed is adjusted via the drive motor VFD from the control panel without stopping the machine. Increase speed to produce finer output with higher fines content; reduce speed to shift the product coarser. Adjust in small increments and allow 10–15 minutes for the product gradation to stabilise before sampling. Speed range per model is shown in the technical specifications table.
What is the Difference Between the 5X thin oil Station and the VSI Water-cooled Station?
The 5X uses an air-cooled thin oil lubrication station – no water supply required on site, lower installation complexity, and no risk of water contamination in the oil circuit. The standard VSI uses a water-cooled station that provides higher cooling capacity for hot climates or very high duty cycles but requires a clean water supply and heat exchanger maintenance. For most quarry and aggregate plant installations, the air-cooled 5X station is the simpler and more practical solution.
